I can't afford a $400 license every "other" time I update my PC. I get a new video card about once a year, maybe more memory, and swap out my CPU in about 1.5 years. I typically get 2-2.5 years out of a rig before I swap out the mobo to support newest CPU and memory technology. Now I'm just going to have to push

The AMD CPU was 2.8GHz and the new Intel is 2.3, but I don't know if those numbers are directly related. I gave up 1 GB of RAM compared to the earlier box but figure I can add RAM easily in the future. I was going to ask questions about the drive 1/drive 2 discussion below but, if I can use the anytime upgrade,

The CPU will now run at correct full speed without changing with load. The setting that actually changes this is the C1E Support. If you don't touch any of The SpeedStep Technology can be left enabled as it is under OS control. Vista allows setting the min/max % values. I disabled C1E, which gave a constant 9x

Vista supports 64-bit addressing properly. Apps can use large memory as, well, memory. You mean Vista 64. I believe that the Home Premium does not. My CPU is an AMD Athlon x2 4800+. Intel is finally back in the mix with their Core 2 Duo. Not the Core Duo, but with the "2". Read up on it on Tom's Hardward. Kicks ass on AMD. It will smoke.
